Chequamegon Mercantile has stocked the useful, the local, and the hard-to-find on Chequamegon Square since the pantry ran on root cellars. Provisions, camp and cabin supplies, gifts worth giving, and shelves full of goods made by your neighbors.

What we carry

Four corners of the store, roughly. We restock what sells and chase down what you ask for — if we don't have it, there's a good chance we can get it.

Provisions & pantry

Coffee roasted up the road, Wisconsin cheese and sausage, maple syrup, jam, dry goods, and the bag of flour you forgot until you were already home.

Made around the bay

More than sixty local makers share our shelves — the potter in Washburn, the soap-maker outside Bayfield, the fellow who ties flies through the long winter. When you buy their work here, the money stays in the county and the maker hears about it. That's the whole idea.

What folks say

"The only place in town that had exactly the odd little enamel pot my mother used to have. They dug it out from the back and wrapped it up like it was china."
Marge D., Ashland
"We stop in every trip up north to stock the cabin. Good coffee, good socks, and somebody who actually knows where the trailhead is."
Tom & Lisa K., Washburn
"I sell my candles here and they treat my little batch like it matters. Half my customers found me on this shelf."
Anna P., Bayfield
