Pete and Marcy Halvorsen on the dock at Superior Pines

About us

I'm Pete Halvorsen. I grew up in Bayfield, spent my summers hauling nets on my dad's commercial rig, and earned my captain's license the year I turned twenty-two. My wife Marcy and I bought the old Pike's Bay homestead in 1997, cleared the brush, and put up the first cabin with a lot of help from neighbors and one very patient banker.

Twenty-some years later there are three cabins, a good boat, and a fish-cleaning shack that's seen a lot of happy families. I still run every charter myself. Marcy keeps the cabins turning over and somehow remembers the name of every kid who's ever caught their first trout off our dock.

We're not a resort and we don't want to be — no front desk, no key cards, no crowds. Just clean cabins, honest water, and the kind of quiet you drive a long way to find. When you call, you're talking to one of us.

Around the bay

We buy our firewood from the crew down the road at Red Cliff, send guests to Ellen's for pie and the Bayfield co-op for groceries, and donate a charter every year to the Apostle Islands Lighthouse Preservation raffle. This bay has been good to us, and we try to give a little back.
